Booking through Thursday

1. In your opinion, what is the best translation of a book to a movie?
2. The worst?
3. Had you read the book before seeing the movie, and did that make a difference? (Personally, all other things being equal, I usually prefer whichever I was introduced to first.)

The best: Brideshead Revisited. (I'm prejudiced: I like anything with Jeremy Irons.)
The worst: The DaVinci Code.
Had I read the books the books first and did it make a difference? Yes for Brideshead, and the adaptation enhanced it so much that I've both read the book and watched the series many, many times. Yes for DaVinci, and it didn't make that much of a difference because I loathed them both. The film was so much sillier, though...

I agree. Da Vinci was pretty lame. It's a shame too, cause it had some great actors. Tom Hanks and Ian McKlellan are a couple of my favorites!

Audrey Tatou is one of MY favorites, and I was sort of horrified by how they put six inches of clumpy foundation on her face!

I'd forgotten about The DaVinci Code, and you're right: the book was much better. The movie certainly did not live up to my expectations.

The BEST! I adored the series of Brideshead Revisited...
it far surpassed the book(which in its own way was good)
I agree about Jeremy Irons....

I haven't read Davinci Code or seen the movie and don't know if I will. I'm not really into Christian books.

Since most of the action in Da Vinci code was shocking the Christians and a whole lot of talk, I'm not surprised it didn't translate well to screen.

I'd just heard that thrillers translate well to screen but mysteries don't. In a book, you're flipping back to check the clues. (Or you can).
